  • Microsoft Way

    7/18/2010

In the last couple of weeks we have been driving thru America from the east coast (New York) to the west coast (Seattle). I figured out I needed to show my family the Microsoft campus too. Of course they know I work at Microsoft... but having only seen the office of a subsidiary - the one in Rome, with about 250 people at its max - might not have given them (especially the kids) an idea of the actual size of the company.
  • Where's the other Urdu?

    7/18/2010

What are the languages of India? is a rather loaded question. Not in the Have you stopped beating your wife yet? sense. But perhaps to some the two questions have a similar order of magnitude. In the constitution of India, it is clear that the official languages of the country are Hindi (in the Devanagari script) and English (in the Latin script). But a part of the constitution allows the recognition of official languages in individual states, and since
  • Show Any Toolbar

Of course, not all toolbars will have their buttons available as it all depends on your context:
  • The Real Life Social Network v2

    7/17/2010

Thanks to Commander Farrell for sharing this one with me – by Paul Adams of Google. Reminded me of Danah’s work and lessons for us all in here. Social networks look easy because they are made to be easy. They’re just as hard as real networks though and need the same love, care and attention.
  • Minimalism is Made in China

    7/17/2010

You'd think that going minimalist in terms of interior design would be easy. Just decide which three items you want to keep in each room, and throw the rest away. In fact, if you are unfortunate enough to subject yourself to my weekly ramblings, you'll probably recall that we are in the process of going minimalist in our lounge at the moment. We've tossed out the old gas fire and surround and ordered a modern remote controlled "rectangular sheet of black glass" fire that pretends to be a real one
  • Check out Chirpy, a very cool Add-In to run T4MVC and do many other cool things

    7/17/2010

Just a quick post to point folks to a very cool CodePlex Add-In that you may not know about. It’s called Chirpy and can be downloaded from http://chirpy.codeplex.com/. The reason I discovered it is that it includes functionality to automatically run T4MVC. In fact, it is basically the new version of the Add-In by Wayne Brantley that I blogged about a few months back. Wayne has been working on this with Evan Nagle, who is the main owner. But note that Chirpy does
  • How to use the MSBuild debugger in Visual Studio 2010

    7/17/2010

Dan Moseley, dev lead for msbuild, wrote a debugger for msbuild while on leave(!) back during the 2010 cycle. While it ultimately couldn’t be fully completed and tested to be an official feature, it is in the product with a switch to enable it (it’s off by default). This was a conscious decision made by the VS team, and I think it was a great compromise. It wasn’t something feasible as a power tool, and it’s too useful to have to wait for the next release. Dan has written a
